It's best to check behind the piano if the date serial number you look up doesn't seem correct. Yet, stamped on the rear of the piano in the upper left corner will be the same serial number stamped on the upper left corner with the signifying factory letter proceeding it. However, for whatever reason, some models that were produced outside of the Hamamatsu, Japan factory have a serial number located on the pianos plate that shows a series of numbers without a letter proceeding it. You can identify where your piano was manufactured a few ways, but the easiest way is to take note if there are any characters before the numbers. These serial numbers will not correspond correctly to the serial number found on a Yamaha piano built in their Thomaston, Georgia factory.
